Knitting with Homespun Yarn

I started a scarf with the yarn that I spun on my drop spindle. It has a really neat texture since the thickness varies. This is how far I was able to get with one spool full on the spindle. Now off to the garden to get a little weeding done before it gets to hot. Weeds and plants are growing like crazy with this heat.

Drop Spindle Spinning

The girls and I are learning to spin using a drop spindle. It really gives an appreciation for the skill and time it took to make fabric and yarn before machinery. I read that girls were usually taught the skill at 5 or 6 years old. We made our drop spindles from instructions found on the net. We are having fun with it and it's kind of addictive. I'm not ready to give up the idea of a spinning wheel though. LOL

Norton's Close Encounter

Norton likes to give the girls kisses through the fence. Millie and Gandy don't pay too much attention to the sheep. Eleanor is getting to check him out on her turf.

Tramp-O-Weenies!

The weenies love running around on the trampoline, Gandy even likes to bounce with us.

New Coats

Louisa loves the camera and is always ready to model. Finished the new coats yesterday, which was long overdue. It seemed like they grew out of them overnight. About 8 inches of belly was hanging out. LOL

The Growing Garden

Beans are all up, Peas are in bloom, and lettuces growing wild. Looks like todays rain also gave us a new batch of weeds.

Lessons Learned in Shepherding... So Far

First of all, don't leave anything that might be interesting to a sheep, near the outside of their pen. I wish I would have got a picture, but it might of seemed like abuse to take time to get the camera. LOL We left the bright blue tarp on the ground, that we had used earlier for shade. Later we went out to take them to the barn for the night, and they had put their heads through the same hole in the fence panel. They just stood there looking at us, shall we say, SHEEPISHLY! LOL Well after some finaggling Caitlin and I got them out, no worse for wear.

Gas for the grill!

Caitlin thinks she has figured out why summer has over-looked us... It's that we haven't been able to grill because we've been out of gas, therefore, can't be summer. So rest assured we went to town lastnight and bought gas, so summer should be on its way anyday now... We also went and picked up a beautiful oak dinning set. Our friends bought a new set, and wanted to just give away the one they had. Honestly, they have been over for dinner and I think they were just taking pity on us. LOL No more sitting on the $3 folding stools!!!! Thanks Barb and Larry!
